Sudsy Showdown: Beer Madness

With the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament in full swing, March Madness brackets have already been submitted and many have already been upset (thanks a lot, Morehead State). But, that doesn’t mean your picking and choosing duties are over. Beer bracket competitions abound!

If the Richmond Spyders’ win ruined your sweet sixteen choices, never fear; your bracket fun isn’t over.

Pop over to to vote for your favorite beer as part of their Brew Madness 2011 challenge. (Obviously, we’d love to see Prima Pils make the next round). Then, quickly click your way to The Washington Post’s Beer Madness, and select Victory. Tilted Smile is somehow beating us — if that’s not Beer Madness, we don’t know what is!

The real madness is that craft brewers are being pitted against one another like NCAA rivals. Unlike Duke and UNC, craft brewers look for opportunities to collaborate, not dominate. That said, we’d still love to score a Victory in a few bracket rounds.

How do you decide who to pick in your brackets? Are you motivated by home town pride? Is it your true love of the product and its virtues that encourage your vote?

The Victory Brewing Story

The story of Victory Brewing Company starts on a school bus in 1973 when fifth-graders Ron Barchet and Bill Covaleski stepped aboard, on their way to a new school. The two became fast friends and remained so, even as they grew up and went to college on opposite coasts. Just months out of college, Bill’s appreciation of good beer and access to his father’s home brewing equipment inspired him to explore the hobby.
