It’s that time again! Philly Beer Week kicks off on Friday, May 31. It is a week of incredible beers and thrilling events mixed in with a little insanity. If you’re up for the challenge, join us and drink your way through the city for ten days (that’s right folks, the creators pbw_logoof Philly Beer Week have decided that a week is now ten days long). Kick off the world’s largest beer celebration of its kind with a festival like no other. Welcome the arrival of the Hammer of Glory from its day-long relay through the streets of Philadelphia, cheer award-winning brewers and watch Mayor Nutter smash open the first official keg of the week: Brotherly Suds 4. It’s a can’t-miss toast to America’s Best Beer-Drinking City, and we’ll be there pouring our Liberty Bell Ringer Double IPA and CBC Tettnang Pils.

Back again hosting is the one and only Goddess Isis, collecting “change for change” to benefit local LGBT community centers. Entertainment for the evening includes performances by the nationally acclaimed Dollhouse Review with special appearances by supporting “beer queens” – AKA our supporting male industry counterparts. Beer reps talk a good game, but do they have the skills to perfectly pair their beers with Alla Spina’s delicious dishes? This Cage Match competition will turn up the heat, as different brewery reps faceoff to win your hearts and stomachs during this four-course dinner paired with eight beers (one from each brewery, per course). Seating is limited as they’re holding it on their “cage table” looking down on the restaurant. You’ll have a chance to vote on the winner, but our bet is on Greg. We’ll be pouring Throwback Lager, Mandarina Pale Ale and Liberty Bell Ringer Double IPA.

The competition consists of a blind tasting of 12 Craft/Imported Beers. There will be multiple questions for each beer to test your knowledge. Only one team can come out victorious!

For the finale, Di Bruno’s house Affineur, Rich Morillo, and local Doe Run Cheesemaker, Kristian Holbrook, will unveil a special cheese that has been aged and washed in Victory Beer. The Victory Brewing Story

The story of Victory Brewing Company starts on a school bus in 1973 when fifth-graders Ron Barchet and Bill Covaleski stepped aboard, on their way to a new school. The two became fast friends and remained so, even as they grew up and went to college on opposite coasts. Just months out of college, Bill’s appreciation of good beer and access to his father’s home brewing equipment inspired him to explore the hobby. That same year (1985), Bill gave Ron a home brewing kit as a Christmas gift. With that, both Bill and Ron developed their love of the craft…
